A blast from my past

Today Rowan recreated a scene from my babyhood, but threw in a concerned look and a hand against the face for dramatic effect.

You ain't seen moves like this before

During the couple weeks surrounding Rowan's birth, my mild interest in Dora and The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse has morphed into an obessession. Following the conclusion of almost every episode of the shows, I must insist on watching them again ("gen") and, if denied, throw my body down underneath the TV and cry out in desperation for either "Dooo-ruh" or "'Key," as appropriate. Today I was delighted to discover that iTunes does in fact have the soundtrack for both shows. The discovery prompted me to grab Rowan's hand and show her all my best dance moves. It is clear from her yawn that she does not yet share my excitement on the subject, but she's small and has much to learn about what's important in life. I shall teach her.

Cutting the cord

Not long after Mom and Dad brought Rowan to live at our house, I came to the shocking realization that, much like my Blackberry, you need to plug her into the wall after you've used her for a while. On the 26th a guy in a medical supply van came to deliver a special machine to help break down all the bilirubin in her system that was giving her an orangy hue. For three days she had to hang out in her swing all day and all night with her glowing blue blanket. I contemplated ways we might be able to drink tea in my pink princess house or line up all my kitchen utensils on the bottom stair together if she couldn't be more than 16 inches from an electrical outlet. Much to my relief, the van pulled up a week ago and took that machine back. Good thing. I had no idea how I'd teach her my very latest trick -- crib escape tactics -- with that cord attached.

Not one to let a little medical equipment cramp her style, Rowan accessorized with a matching blue pacifier.

That's right. After months of being held captive in my own bed, I finally sprung free...quite literally. Mom thought she'd give me a time out today for defying her instructions to return Rowan's pacifier to its rightful owner. In exchange for the time out in my crib, I gave my Mom a heart attack and a half when I catapulted myself over the crib railing and met her at the door...all the while maintaining my tantrum in full force. Just want Mom to feel as if she's getting her money's worth from those gymnastics classes...
